You know thank God we still have the courts that have to obey the law whether they want to or not. And that is part of the genius of our system. Most judges know they can't just rule in Trump and his treasonous conservative/America Hating/Republican's favor even if they want to. Because its a double edged sword. If they try to rule in their favor it just opens Pandora's Box and gives others an opportunity to use that precedence against then. So the only safe thing to do is stay within the law.

Kari Lake's attorney fined for repeated 'unequivocally false' claims in Arizona election challenge

The Arizona Supreme Court on Thursday ordered sanctions against former gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake's lawyer for "unequivocally false" claims made in court about 35,000 ballots added to last year's election vote count.

Attorneys for Gov. Katie Hobbs and Secretary of State Adrian Fontes, both Democrats, sought sanctions against Lake for bringing what they called a frivolous and unfounded lawsuit. While the Supreme Court granted the request in part, its Thursday order says Lake's lawyer must pay $2,000 to the court clerk for "repeating such false assertions." The order stops short of ordering Lake to pay her opponents' legal fees.

Much of Hobbs and Fontes' argument concentrated on Lake’s claim that 35,563 ballots were added to the results at Maricopa County’s third-party ballot processor, Runbeck Election Services, after the Supreme Court said Lake did not show evidence to prove it and cited the allegation as a basis for possible sanctions.

Lake, a former television news anchor and Republican nominee for governor, lost to Hobbs in November by less than 1 percentage point, or about 17,000 votes. She has continued to challenge the defeat in court, claiming election malfeasance by Maricopa County election officials, who are predominantly Republicans, and Hobbs, who was secretary of state at the time. Lake has asked judges to declare her the governor or order a re-do of the election in Maricopa County.

But she hasn't proved her claims before three Arizona courts who have looked at the case, including a Maricopa County judge that heard two days of testimony, an appeals court and the Arizona Supreme Court.

Hobbs asked the Arizona Supreme Court to order Lake to cover her legal fees and expenses, arguing Lake's claims were "frivolous" and "based solely on her fixation to litigate to the end, and not on any actual basis to appeal other than her own disagreement and disappointment with the results of the election and the lower courts’ rulings."

Lawyers for Fontes, who was elected Secretary of State last year and who oversees elections and procedural guidelines counties must follow, sought sanctions "or some kind of admonishment" as a deterrent to future baseless challenges.

Court rules and state law allow for judges to order attorneys fees to be paid by the opposing legal party in certain circumstances.

Lake's lawyers argued against sanctions, doubling down on the allegation that ballots were added and defending the former gubernatorial candidate's claims about the election last year as genuine.

"Nor can anyone doubt that Lake honestly believes that electoral misconduct and illegal votes determined the outcome of the 2022 gubernatorial election," they wrote in an April court filing

Lake is expected to continue her legal fight even after the court's determination on sanctions. The Supreme Court in March said a Maricopa County judge should reconsider one of Lake's seven claims, and that will proceed now.

I'm not a missionary. It's not my goal to change anyone's mind on anything. If someone doesn't agree with me, or doesn't believe something I state as a fact. I don't actually care.

Trump maybe mentally ill and he may attract the mentally ill to his cause, but being deluded, being wrong, or misinformed, is not a mental illness. Most people believe it's wrong t0 steal, but plenty of people can justify stealing when they want something. It's a rational decision. The MAGA people looked at Trump and made a rational decision. They concluded to get what they wanted, a lying grifter with no personal morals was required. It's the difference between stealing and paying for stolen goods because it's a bargain.

It was a bold gamble and they lost the bet. Being President gave Trump the opportunity to destroy himself and everything he values in life. Trump's biggest problems right now are the civil rape and defamation trial, the New York fraud investigation, and the Mar Lago documents investigation. The only reason he has to deal with the rape and documents is because he got elected President. The list goes on.

The Stormy Daniels affair and the subsequent humiliation of Melania would not exist, except for the Presidency. The Daniels case is snow globe of all of Trump's character flaws. He cheats on his wife because, why not? He needs to pay Daniels to keep quiet. This leads to a criminal conspiracy, which requires him to lie repeatedly and pathetically to crowds of people who don't believe a word of it.

They know he's lying and they don't care. This is only a problem when they have to speak outside the group. A person who accepts an implausible lie as truth, looks stupid to anyone else. People don't mind looking dishonest, or as Trump said about cheating on taxes, "Because I'm smart." They like looking smart, but hate looking stupid.

I agree with this. In fact the day Trump came down the escalator I was thinking man did you fuck up. You are going to go down and take your whole family with you by trying to jump into politics. And that was even when I and Trump both thought he did not really have a prayer of winning.

Its easy to be a totally corrupt criminal if you are rich and just stay in your own ivory tower. No one or thing can touch you there. But you jump out of the ivory tower and into politics then the eyes of the world are on you and people will start looking. Even if its just a publicity stunt to try and prop up your sinking brand.

But nothing could have expedited that more than actually becoming president. And sure as president he managed to corrupt the entire fede3al government to cover up and protect him, But all that did was just keep pushing things back until he was out of office and then the avalanche would begin. And its going to get all of them not just Trump. Letitia James is going to put all of them out of business and the only business they really have is daddy Trump and his screaming bullshit.

And the walls are closing in fast. The New York fraud case and Stormy Daniels are actually small potato and distractions compared to the peril he faces from Fanni Willis down in Georgia. That could be RICCO and she's got the goods.

None of them though are on par with Special Counsel Jack Smith and he has already got a smorgasbord of crimes to choose from with two sitting ducks. The documents in Mar a Lago and the hundreds of millions Trump raised for a legal defense fund that did not even exist. Those are pretty straightforward crimes to prosecute because they have paper trails and witnesses. And can be directly tied to Trump.

And Smith might actually try to charge Trump with sedition conspiracy with an attempted coup and inciting an insurrection. He sure got a boost on that today with the seditious conspiracy convictions. But those cases would be incredibly complex and have a lot of possible pitfalls. So I expect him to shoot the sitting ducks first. And that would be all he needs to put Trump away.

And without daddy the Trump's got nothing.

Seems Trump's attempted coup is a slam dunk case. Trump called and tried to pressure a state election official to "recalculate" the results and find him enough votes to overturn the election in that state. I what else is necessary to indict Trump.

And Fanni Willis appears to be closing in on Trump and his coup plotters very rapidly now. This is really significant because the "fake elector" plot involved multiple states. Where they actually committed fraud and sent the fraudulent documents into the government. Some of them also gained illegal access to voting machines. So getting cooperation from some of the fake electors could be the string that causes the attempted coup to come unraveled,

Eight alleged fake electors took immunity deals in Ga. probe. What does that mean for Trump?

Eight alleged fake electors who in 2020 sought to cast Georgia's electoral votes to former President Donald Trump instead of Joe Biden agreed to immunity deals with prosecutors investigating the scheme, according to a Friday court filing.

The Georgia investigation development comes as local prosecutors continue to pursue a wide-ranging inquiry involving the former president and his allies, election fraud and the electors' roles in casting fake Trump ballots.

Fulton County D.A. Fani Willis said possible criminal indictments from the investigation could come between July 11 and Sept. 1; whether the grand jury will decide to indict is still unknown, but she asked for “heightened security and preparedness” during that period, regardless.

Here's what experts say that means for the Georgia probe and Trump.

Alleged fake electors scheme What we know

Former President Donald Trump announces he is running for president for the third time at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Fla., Nov. 15, 2022.
What was the 2020 elector scheme?
After the 2020 presidential election, when it became clear Trump had lost the election and Joe Biden would become president, the now-ex-president and his allies allegedly devised a plan to use slates of alleged fake electors in battleground states to overturn the 2020 election.

The plan, based on a debunked legal theory, relied on key states to find Trump-supporting electors and on former Vice President Mike Pence to toss out the real electors. Pence penned a letter Jan. 6 on the debate over the objections, which said his "oath to support and defend the Constitution constrains me from claiming unilateral authority to determine which electoral votes should be counted and which should not."

The failure to overturn the election was a motivator for pro-Trump rioters who attacked the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

How does it relate to the Georgia probe?
On Dec. 14, 2020, alleged fake electors met in seven states — Georgia, Arizona, Michigan, Pennsylvania, New Mexico, Nevada and Wisconsin — and signed documents falsely claiming they were the "duly elected" electors from their state, at the Trump campaign's request, USA TODAY previously reported.

"The fake electors in Georgia were supposed to throw confusion into the Electoral College vote count on January 6 by suggesting there were two competing slates of electors, with the Trump slate purporting to represent the legitimate electors," said Anthony Michael Kreis, a law professor at Georgia State University.

Why did eight electors receive immunity?
Kay Levine, a law professor at Emory University in Georgia, told USA TODAY that without an official indictment — and without knowledge of specific alleged crimes — the role the electors who received immunity deals are playing in the Georgia investigation is speculative. But the basics of immunity deals can offer some answers.

"Without knowing the details, it suggests to me that there are eight people who the office at one point considered would be targets of this investigation and has decided that they would be more useful to this investigation as witnesses, rather than targets," she said. "That's the reason for an immunity deal."

Looking at the broader context of the investigation, it's possible that conspiracy charges related to election fraud could be on the table, both Kreis and Levine said.

Why have two electors not received immunity?
The Friday court filing revealed that two of the alleged fake electors have not received immunity deals. That could be because prosecutors believe those electors were more central to the organizing and planning of the elector scheme, Kreis said.

"So the DA wants to either prosecute them because of their role, or prospectuses are slowly working up the food chain and using additional information uncovered through immunity deals as leverage in future negotiations," he said.

What does that mean for Trump?
The disclosure that the eight alleged fake electors received immunity deals doesn't shed any additional light on the specific charges Trump or his allies might face as a result of the Georgia probe, Levine said.

But the immunity deals may indicate that Willis' probe could lead to charges for more central players in the 2020 electors scheme, like Trump, Rudy Giuliani or lawyer John Eastman, according to Kreis. Trump and his allies could face charges for fomenting a broad conspiracy to overturn the election or having engaged in a criminal racketeering scheme, though at this point, the extent to which the former president played a role in directing the scheme is unclear, he said.

"The fake electors scheme was central to that conspiracy to solicit election fraud, which is why their actions could put Trump in serious legal jeopardy," Kreis said.

GOP Georgia chair: Trump's lawyers advised me to stand as fake elector

David Shafer, the chairman of the Georgia Republican Party, now claims that his plot to stand as a fake elector should not be criminally charged because he was acting on the advice of former President Donald Trump's legal team, reported CNN on Monday.

"Specifically, Shafer’s attorneys say their client was relying on 'repeated and detailed advice of legal counsel' when he organized a group of 'contingent' electors from Georgia and served as one himself, thus 'eliminating any possibility of criminal intent or liability,' according to a copy of the May 5 letter," reported Zachary Cohen and Sara Murray. "The letter, which was first reported by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, comes as Willis and her team of prosecutors investigating efforts to overturn the 2020 election results in Georgia are planning to make an announcement on possible charges against Trump or his allies later this summer."

This comes after reporting last week that eight of the 16 fake electors have accepted immunity deals from Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis.

IN OTHER NEWS: Disney expands lawsuit against DeSantis

"Shafer, who sources previously told CNN could be among those indicted when Willis makes her charging announcements, has come under scrutiny for his role in the effort to put forward alternate slates of electors to block the certification of the 2020 presidential vote," said the report. "In their letter to Willis’s office, Shafer’s lawyers say he was 'given very direct, detailed legal advice on the procedure he should follow, and he followed those instructions to the letter ... I believe that any fair-minded person, with possession of all the facts, would conclude that Mr. Shafer and the other presidential elector nominees acted lawfully and appropriately.'"

The Fulton County District Attorney's office has run a broad investigation of the plot to interfere in the certification of the 2020 election results in Georgia, which saw the state vote Democratic for president for the first time since the 1990s. Among the issues scrutinized in the probe is Trump's phone call with Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger demanding he "find" extra votes to declare him the winner.

Willis has said that a decision over who to charge, potentially including Trump himself, could come at some point this summer.

I'm gonna assume that what shooter really meant to say was that a "fake elector" was someone who, on January the 6th, 2021, were supposed to illegally vote in place of the real electors from their state for the offices of the president and vice president, thus changing the outcome of the 2020 election in favor of Donald Trump, who has been lying about the election results ever since from even before the election, and despite having paid not one but two companies to find voter fraud only to find none.

I would say that those are his exact words, but he'd complain I was putting words in his mouth. Just tell him I'm making a well-informed guess...

"Fascism encourages contempt for democratic institutions, particularly elections, and the rule of law. Instead, it calls on the majority group to turn over power to a strongman and his lieutenants, while glorifying the use of violence in support of fascist myths and goals."
